Should Driving on the Beach be Allowed?

Should Driving on the Beach be Allowed?

In many beaches in Florida such as Dayonta Beach and New Smyrna Beach, drivers are allowed to drive on the sand, and the beachfront has even been labeled a street for trafficers to take. But the number of “driveable beaches” has largely decreased due to the growing number of deaths each year from people getting run over by vehicles.
A girl who was 16 was run over ten years ago in St. Augustine by a Toyota Fourrunner, just died recently from the accident, she had been in a coma for the ten years but never got better from the accident. St. Augustine banned driving on their beach a month after the accident had happened to prevent another catastophy from reoccuring.

The Gap: Grad School or Adventure?

The Gap: Grad School or Adventure?

Today I made a big decision: I am not going to graduate school.

Well at least not now.

Honestly, I'm not ready. I'm a double major in English and Sociology and I graduate in May. I still don't have any clue of what I truly "want to be when I grow up." I'm totally burned out with attaining my undergraduate degrees and going to graduate school right now would be a waste of time and money (and student loans are nothing to play with)!

I'm OK with my decision for now. I don't feel like a slacker and the year that I spend out of school will be spent in the workforce or maybe even in the Peacecorps, which I'm seriously considering.

Graduate school will be there and I need to ensure that I'm the best candidate being mentally, emotionally and spiritually ready to undergo rigorous academic courses. I'm sitting out a year. Yeap. I sure am. Don't judge me.

Study Nights in the KD Kitch

Study Nights in the KD Kitch

Tonight marks the first of many nights that will be spent doing homework in the kitchen of my sorority house.  Studying in the "KD Kitch" as we call it usually consists of Facebook stalking and gossiping about anything and everything we can think of to procrastinate.  The majority of girls are able to go out on this typical Thursday night, but me and about 15 other girls are stuck doing homework... Study Abroad

Study Abroad

This past summer I had the opportunity to spend a month in Germany, "studying abroad". "Studying Abroad" basically means you get to go somewhere other than your school, usually in another state or country, and take classes while getting a chance to explore different geographic areas. It gives you the chance to see how other people live in other places in the world and gather a sense of their culture... [More]

Just Picture the Audience in Their Underwear

Just Picture the Audience in Their Underwear

I'm currently taking a break from my homework to blog about an assignment I'm kind of dreading. I'm in an advance public speaking class, and tomorrow is my first speech of the semester. I took Intro to Public Speaking last semester, so I'm not completely inexperienced, but these jitters still won't go away.

According to a 2001 Gallup Poll, public speaking ranks as the second biggest fear of Americans (after snakes). Now, why is this? Public speaking is not a life-threatening activity, but it scares us to death.

I think it's the thought of an entire room being silent except for my voice that scares me the most. If I forget what I'm supposed to say, all eyes will be on me, and I alone have the job of fixing the silence. It's a big responsibility to keep an audience engaged and entertained for 5 minutes, which always seems longer when I'm the one behind the podium.
