Formal - AKA College Prom
Tri-Delta is one of the few sororities at UGA that has formal in the fall. It was last night, and it was wonderful! Formal is the one time we get to dress up from head to toe in silky strapless dresses, jewels and difficult to wear stilettos and spend entirely way too much money at a super elegant restaurant for dinner (where we pay for the guys too)!
It all begins three weeks before the actual event when date prospects are evaluated. Who to take? My best guy friend who's already been to a dozen of these functions with me? That guy (who I've never talked to) in biology? Maybe just a blind date would be best.
Once the date has been decided on and the guy has been asked, the dress hunt starts. After several fancy downtown stores and hours of shopping, the most perfect (and expensive) dress is purchased.
Nails, shoes, jewelry and all other accessories wait until the week before or week of. Then, the actual night: Begin getting ready two hours before - enough time for a piping hot shower and to have a no pressure, no rush getting beautified experience.
Nerves strike the stomach about an hour before Date knocks on the door. What will he think of my dress? Will we have anything to talk about at dinner? Will this be awkward? Oh gosh...maybe I should have gone stag.
This is how the past two formals have gone for me. However, this year was an exception. There was no question as to who I was going to ask. I wore the same dress that I've worn to four other Tri-Delta functions and I actually didn't get to have a hot shower this time.
Alterations to the usual formal experience made this past formal even more special. Dinner at a super fancy stake house exceeded expectations, my date and I couldn't have hit it off better, dancing was more fun (and tiring) than I remembered and conversation was endless.
Overall, the night was a 10.
I'm looking forward to one more formal dance with my Tri-Delta friends next year.
