Voting in College
After watching this week’s episode of “Greek,” it got me to thinking. Why are most college students (or at least in my opinion) either not registered or apathetic to politics in general? Now I know from personal experience, here at Cal Poly, even though the Liberals are the loudest voices heard on campus, they aren’t the biggest numbers. Over my four years here, I have met, more like discovered, a huge population of Conservatives (not surprising if you really think about the dynamics of the school), but it is more the unheard voices that I want to talk about rather than a political debate. Why have a voice and rights if you aren’t going to use them? I would rather someone be totally opposite of my political and social beliefs but actually use their voice than someone who will agree with me or who doesn’t care. Register to vote. Read about the issues; educate yourself. Care about the future of our country. Stop being ignorant. You are going to college for a reason. Become a member of this country. And if you choose to not vote, then you shouldn’t be allowed to embrace any of the rights that this country has to offer. Voting is your right and duty as a citizen.
