Giving Back
I feel as if volunteering is important because it helps give back to the community. Since this past October, I’ve been volunteering at the Bloomington Animal Shelter. I walk dogs once a week for two hours. It always makes me sad seeing all the dogs at the shelter waiting to be adopted. They all look so sad and all they want is a place to call home. It makes my heart break. At the same time, I know I am helping by walking them. They get so excited when I come up to their cage and just want attention. Most of them don’t even run around when I take them out to walk them, they just want to be near me. They want affection and to be played with. I know I’m helping make a difference. I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to attend school, have a great family and friends, and have always had a roof over my head. Therefore, I love being able to help out those less fortunate. Friends of mine have participated in different volunteering organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters and College Mentors For Kids. There are so many different volunteer organizations to get involved in that it would be hard to find one that wouldn’t interest you. There are so many people and animals out there that need help and it’s important to help them. Every little bit counts, whether we realize it or not.
